Wilfried Eichlseder reeclected as Rector

On 15th December 2018, the current Rector Wilfried Eichlseder was unanimously reelected by the University Council for a third term in office.

In a first statement, the Chairman of the University Council, Waltraud Klasnic (governor, ret.), said, “We had the rare opportunity to choose among three extraordinarily qualified candidates and, eventually, we opted for continuity. This continuity comes along with the responsibility to continue the successful development of the University we have seen in the past years. Rector Eichlseder is the one who can ensure that progress.”

With the election of Wilfried Eichlseder as Rector, the University Council endorsed the recommendation of the Senate.

Univ. Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Wilfried Eichlseder has been steering the course of Montanuniversität since 1 st October 2011. His third term in office lasts for four years starting on 1 st October 2019.

Rector Eichlseder (62) was born in Upper Austria and studied Mechanical Engineering at the Graz University of Technology. He completed his doctoral thesis in 1989 and started his career at the Research Division at Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG. In 1999, he was appointed as professor for Mechanical Engineering at Montanuniversität Leoben. In his time as Rector, he managed to steadily increase the number of enrolments, to strengthen and develop partnerships with the industry and to set the stage for the construction of a new study centre (construction will start in Autumn 2019).
